Because you’ve never seen one of those, right?
This is one I delivered in Newcastle at a NEPA (North East Publicity Association) event on Monday night. It contains one or two UK social media examples in. Enjoy!

David Quaid
By far one of the best presentations on Social Media. Would be great to see some more Social Media strategies avoiding trying to sell/advertise directly.
Ben Ayers
Nice one! Some words in there I didn’t understand but I think that’s because I am from The South.
Stephen
Thanks very much for the kind words. Muchos appreciated.
@Ben Don’t worry, I shall give you some lingo training when I see you next.
Matthew Gain
Nice presentation mate – simple to the point and useful. I might steal somethings from this for my next preso if you don’t mind.
Stephen
Not at all mate. Knock yourself out.

I think this is the first long Slide Share I’ve got to the end of – and the first one I’ve laughed at.
Some thoughts. Was looking at Knowem the other day. Not sure about the value of that approach – brands shouldn’t spread themselves too widely but just register where their customers are hanging out and where they have the resource to converse. Unless you’re advocating registering your name everywhere to avoid cybersquatting? If so brands can do that themselves to save on the premium service.
Also as the Hugh MacLeod pointed out, no need to talk to customers like an advertiser so maybe don’t forefront the brand but register the name of the campaign or project instead..

Thanks, Fiona. Glad you enjoyed it. Yes, the slide was partly included to avoid brand jacking. Despite the brand jacking issue, even if you didn’t intend using each social media platform I’d still recommend registering the main ones as you might in future. And, besides, it’s just nice to own your brand’s name in these domains.
Also, I wouldn’t recommend that people use Knowem’s premium service but it’s certainly useful to see which of their domains are or are not available. It doesn’t cost anything to use.

I agree and I do consult against using the brand name in most instances. But you can’t just say “don’t bother registering the brand name because you probably won’t use it.”

Fab as always…
