Start spreading the news, Im leaving today… Not really. I’m leaving in November and it’s just for a week. Happy to say I’ll be jetting off to New York to see my good mate and the person who I would class has made best use of a blog, Paull Young, for a seven day holiday (vacation) in NYC. Paull’s letting me crash at his pad. Top fella!
I’ve never been to the States before so going to do the full tourist thing while I’m there: Pay my respects at Ground Zero and see the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, Staten Island, Times Square, SoHo etc etc.
Any other recommendations?
I’ll also have the pleasure of meeting both Peter Shankman and Peter Himler – two New York based PR bloggers I’ve been reading on a regular basis for quite some time now. And also Paull’s colleagues, Constantin, Christi and the rest of the team at Converseon if they’re not too busy winning awards, that is!
If anyone wants to meet up, I’d love to.

Is Ground Zero, like, a tourist attraction now, then?
Have a lovely time in NYC. My top tip as a semi-professional shopper is to take the PATH train one stop (from WTC) over to Jersey City for shopping, since there’s no sales tax so everything is cheaper. Marvellous.
Stephen
No, sorry, I’m going to update that post. I meant ‘pay my respects’ at Ground Zero.
Well, I was planning to take a half empty suitcase so I could fill it for the reason that you mention. And given the current exchange rate it would be daft not to.
The old PR blogger can be a mean shopper when he wants to be too.
Paull Young
I have enough trouble keeping myself out of trouble as it is…
Blogger drinks will definitely be on, we’ll see what else we can stir up as well.
Stephen
Sounds good. Come November it’ll be 16 months since I’ve had a holiday so I’ll definitely be up for stirring something up.
Probably lots of alcohol.
Serge
I’d love to meet up with you in NY, Stephen. That, after all, would mean I’d be taking a trip over there myself! But alas… no such luck.
Enjoy it!
Stephen
Oh I don’t know, Serge. Maybe you could say it’s an educational trip and try and get the college to pay for it.
Yes, that’s it. You can say you need an all expenses trip to New York to study what an Aussie and an Englishman get up to on the streets of Manhattan.
Sorted.

Go to Museum of Modern Art – if like me you think it sounds wanky because you’re northern, it isn’t.
Empire state building’s a bit rubbish though
Stewart
Carnegie Deli is a must for lunch, fantastic sandwiches – one sandwich is a whole meal!
The atmosphere is great as well, you sit in a row on benches surrounded by pictures of the great and good who have dined there on the walls, ceiling, floor…
Giles
I second Tims idea. MOMA is amazing. You cant go in Statue of Liberty any more so just look at it from a far!
Ivana Kalay
Well, I just want a present
You can give it me when you come back home
Just kiddin’
Have a nice trip
You will be missed

If you can afford it after filling your suitcase with new clothes I recommend the helicopter trips over New York. The flights give the most amazing panoramic view of the Manhattan skyline, something you don’t really get from ground level.
Other than that all of my suggestions are just typical tourist fare: the UN building, Grand Central etc.
Have a great one.

Oyster Bar, basement of Grand Central Station, awesome for lunch, even if you don’t fancy oysters.
Now a controversial suggestion for THE best burger in NY, wait for it…….JG Melon:
JG Melon at 1291 Third Ave., New York, NY 10021
at 74th St
Used to be partner of Joe Allen in London, if you like that sort of thing.
Have fun Stephen, Cass.
Stephen
Wow! Thanks everyone. Who needs tour guides when there’s the wisdom of the crowds?!
Thanks again.

Awwww. I’m jealous
Have fun! I don’t know which of you to tell stay out of trouble. Lol.

Grand Central Station – above the concourse head for one of the bars for a Vodka Martini or two. And later go to one of the oyster bars

Excited that you’re coming. We will definitely hang out!

Hey dude,
long time no speak. We’ll have to catch up soon, lots to tell.
Last time I was in NY my taxi driver went on and on about the bronx zoo and how beautiful it was.
I found the social security offices in Harlem quite interesting while I was there…
It may be worth taking in a show too
