This can't be a stunt… Can it?

Resistance: Fall of Man is probably the best game out for the PS3 at the moment and the rave reviews it’s received since launch probably reflect this. In a nutshell, the story behind the ‘shoot em up’ game is you’re an American soldier shipped out to England to help the British Resistance fight half human, half alien creatures known as the Chimera.

The game takes place in post World War II England and each stage is set in various English cities and towns including Grimsby, York, Bristol, Nottingham, Manchester and London. Because of the nature of gaming these days and the budgets needed to create them (some of them cost the same as a Hollywood movie) the graphics and attention to detail is phenomenal.

And it’s because of this attention to detail that The Church of England isn’t happy.

At the Manchester (the penultimate) stage you’re required to do battle with the Chimera in and around Manchester Cathedral and a report by the BBC today says that The C of E is considering legal action against Sony if they do not remove the game from shop shelves. (Although the game’s creator is Insomniac Games)

I’m not sure if this is a stunt to be honest as there’s a quote in there from action group, Mothers Against Violence. But really, for The C of E to take offence to this is what some might find quite bewildering. I bet Insomniac Games are loving the publicity.

What do they say? All publicity is…

Here’s some more chatter relating to it and here’s some game play courtesy of YouTube.
