Making RSS easier to use

{ Tags: None \ Aug21 }

I’ve took out most of my subscribe buttons on this blog after a post by Stuart Bruce yesterday made me realise that too many buttons are just confusing. Stuart rightly points out that professional communicators have to make the communication process as easy as possible. Having a load of funny looking colourful buttons isn’t going to help anyone who isn’t RSS aware.

Another reason I’m doing this is to get a more accurate figure of readership on this very modest blog. If you have various ways to subscribe to your blog, and not all of them go through the FeedBurner process, then you’re not going to know how many or how people are subscribing you.

It was an idea I had been toying with but Stuart’s post probably gave me a call to action. He also mentioned that he would include a link to basic information on RSS, which is an idea I took (stole) and have included it in my sidebar and header.

Others are doing the same. Lee Hopkins has included only one subscribe link to his new blog and so too has Neville Hobson on his new blog, NevOn 2.0.
